Agave cultivation
Growing environment
It is suitable for growing at a temperature of 15-25℃, and can grow best at a temperature of 10-16℃ at night. It can be cultivated in the open field at a temperature of above 5℃. Adult agave leaves only suffer from mild freezing damage at a low temperature of -5 ℃, the above-ground parts are frozen and decomposed at -13 ℃, the underground stems do not die, and can sprout leaves in the next year. Normal growth, cold and dry winter is the most favorable for its growth, drought tolerance, soil requirements are not strict, to loose, fertile and good drainage of moist sandy soil is appropriate.
Propagation method
Subdivision: more in the growing season, often can be combined with spring pot change. The seedlings germinated at the base of the old plant are removed, and the ones with roots are directly planted in potted seeds.
Cutting: It is carried out in the growing season, and the young buds germinating in the axils of the leaves are removed and left to air for 5-7 days. After the wound is dry, they are planted into the culture soil with good drainage and air permeability, which is easy to take root and survive.
Sowing: If seeds can be collected, they can also be sown and propagated. Seeding propagation has a fairly high emergence rate and seedling management is not difficult. The optimal germination temperature of seeds is above 15℃ at night and about 30℃ during the day. If the temperature is lower than 10℃ at night and 20℃ during the day, the germination rate of seeds is greatly reduced, or even can not sprout. After sowing, it is necessary to cover the basin surface with transparent glass pieces for insulation and moisturizing, and seedlings can emerge 7-10 days after sowing.
