blueberry cultivation

1, planting location selection and basin soil configuration

When planting blueberries in the ground, it is recommended to choose a sunny elevation, sufficient light is more conducive to the growth of blueberries. Bare-root blueberry seedlings are usually planted in autumn from November to February. When planting, it is suggested to dig a larger pit, turn the soil at the bottom of the pit loose, add the fermented sheep manure and mix evenly, then cover with a layer of soil, and then put the blueberry seedlings in, and cover the roots with soil, and finally fully water.

When planting, it is necessary to pay attention not to dig the pit very deep. Blue demon personally suggests that the original soil of blueberry is slightly higher than the ground, 5-8cm, and the soil ridge is high to cover the roots. When watering, it can greatly avoid the occurrence of water rot when there is much rain.

Soil is important if potting blueberries. Blueberries are in the azalea family, so they love acid soil. When potting, make sure the soil is acidic. It can be planted directly with the acid soil used for azaleas, or mixed with 2 parts peat soil, 2 parts leaf rot soil and 1 part perlite.

2. Get plenty of light

Blueberries prefer a sunny environment, but they do not tolerate strong light exposure. In summer, it is best to shade the blueberries planted in the ground. Potted blueberries should be placed in a light scattering position in summer, or kept in the shade to avoid strong light exposure. Other seasons can keep enough light, with at least 4 hours of light per day is preferable.

3. Fertilizer and water management

Blueberries like moist soil environment, with a certain ability of drought resistance, but because of the shallow root system of blueberries, should not be excessive drought, soil planted blueberries in the dry season should pay attention to watering, pot blueberries watering should adhere to see dry see wet, do not water.

For blueberry plants planted in the ground, if the seedlings are relatively small, the Blue demon suggests that you apply fermented sheep dung once a year in March and May, each time the amount can be applied about 1kg, shallow buried around the root system. For large blueberry seedlings, it is recommended to shallow bury fermented sheep manure once in autumn and winter each year, with the amount of 3-5kg, adjusted according to the size of the seedlings, and apply once a year.

Potted blueberries should be thinly fertilized frequently. In southern regions, blueberries can have two growth peaks in a year, one is in May to June, and the other is in July to August. During the growth period of blueberries, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium balanced growth fertilizer or fermented soybean cake fertilizer should be applied every 5-7 days to promote the growth of new branches of blueberries.

In addition to applying water-soluble fertilizer, Blue Demon recommends that you bury fermented sheep dung shallowly along the edge of the basin every 3 months, with 300-500g each time depending on the size of the basin. In autumn, winter or early spring, bone meal can also be embedded in the right amount.

It is important to note that blueberries prefer acidic soil. Whether grown or potted, blueberries should be regularly applied with an acidic fertilizer such as ferrous sulfate to maintain soil acidity.

4. Temperature control

The growth temperature of blueberry is between 13-30 degrees Celsius, which is relatively heat resistant and cold resistant. Different varieties of blueberry have different cold resistance. Some can withstand minus 30 degrees Celsius, but the vast majority of blueberry varieties can survive the winter safely above minus 15 degrees Celsius.

5, pest control

Blueberry pests and diseases are relatively few, can pay attention to observe at ordinary times, found bugs can be manually removed, planted blueberry, in the summer and autumn season should pay attention to the prevention of beetle larvae and longicorns larvae, prevention can start in mid-April, with sweet and sour liquid to kill beetle adults.

In addition, when the fruit is about to mature, we should also pay attention to protection, you can use anti-bird nets to cover, to prevent birds from stealing to eat.
